The human body is full of mystery. One of the interesting organs of our body is the thumb. It is one of the vital organs of our body without which it will be really difficult for us to carry on with our day to day tasks. Therefore, Guru Dronacharya demanded the right hand thumb from his disciple Ekalavya as his guru dakshina to refrain him from operating bow and arrow in his near future. This was a total injustice done in the part of Ekalavya. But this instance serves to be a very important one in realising how important our thumb is to us.
Apart from being the smallest of all the other fingers with two bones and flexible that can be bent on either fingers to a large extent unlike the other fingers, the thumb has a pulse of its own. Therefore, medical professionals take a pulse with the middle and index finger. The reason is because there’s a big artery in the thumb, the princeps pollicis artery, and arteries pulse, making it difficult to feel a pulse in a neck if you’re using your thumb.
