The sports authority of India informed by tweeting that ‘The wrestler Deepak Punia tested COVID positive during the test given by SAI upon arrival at the national camp in Sonipat and was in the hospital. Now he’s been advised home quarantine by Doctors as he’s stable and asymptomatic. His homestay is approved by district COVID Nodal officer.
Deepak Punia who is the World Championship silver medalist wrestler tested positive for COVID-19 upon his arrival at the national camp. As of now he has been discharged from the hospital and advised home isolation.
With Olympic Deepak Punia (86 kg) other two wrestlers also tested positive for the virus. The wrestlers’ names are Naveen (65 kg) and Krishan (125 kg).
After confirming that the wrestler is suffering from the covid-19 infection, other wrestlers were moved to an SAI empanelled hospital as a precautionary measure for further monitoring.
As per the reports, all the wrestlers assemble for the camp on September 1, 2020, and all wrestlers along with the coaches and support staff underwent the mandatory RT-PCR test on arrival at the camp to detect COVID-19 on arrival and there it was confirmed that with Deepak Punia with other two wrestlers has tested COVID-19 positive.
