A three-days religious congregation in Uttar Pradesh’s Guru Dham Mandir near Pratapgarh has turned into a COVID-19 hotspot with several devotees who arrived at the religious meet testing positive for the deadly virus, and an outbreak like the ‘Tablighi Jamat’ in New Delhi last year.
The event was organized by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat with more than 14,000 devotees attending the congregation, pushing aside all COVID-19 norms despite the strict directives given by the Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath.
At the Ashram, COVID-19 protocols like wearing masks, social distancing, regular temperature checks, sanitization etc., were not taken up seriously according to the sources. Devotees who have tested positive, were asked to leave the premises without receiving any health assistance.
Despite the vaccination drive in Uttar Pradesh, the cases have risen once again. So far, more than Six Lakh people have tested positive for the virus in Uttar Pradesh, while 8,750 lost their lives.
