If you look at the night sky, the dazzling stars and the shining moon, you realise that you are not looking at some dome of pretty lights glittering for you. It is straight out an incomprehensible vast void. You are just a tiny part of this gigantic space which doesn’t care about you or your precious existence. This realization hits you with shock and terror compelling you to rethink your purpose in this unplanned journey of life.
You did not choose this trip. Much of the fundamental decisions in your life that moulds you have already been seized by someone else but you. You did not decide on your parents, your childhood, your birthplace, your mother tongue, your gender, your upbringing and so much more. And after all of it, all you get is one shot in life. So if this life is the only truth about you and that you never know if you will be alive tomorrow, then why not chase every desire today? Having no purpose in life does not have to be depressing but liberating. If your existence has no purpose but to die someday, forgotten and wiped out of human history never to exist again, then you get to decide your meaning and have your own interpretation of life without the superficial boundaries of fundamental purpose. This feeling of freedom coming from an open mind is euphoric.
In some doors, it feels so depressing and promising to lose all interest in living because it does not matter at all in the long run. But if we toss the sides and look at it we are able to discover good things in our tiny spirits. If the universal existence is trivial, then what mistakes you made won’t carry any weight. That itself nurtures a new and better version of yourself every day you get up from the bed. Life is idiotic, but that itself builds the inkling. We all perish someday so live now.
