Tech giant Tencent has revealed their plan of car-free “city of the Future”, which is in a size to Monaco, in the Shenzhen, China. The Net city urban development will build within 2 million square metre areas. There will be more pedestrians, green spaces and self-driving vehicles, according to the designers.
This city-within-a-city is located into the Pearl River estuary. It has been designed to accommodate a population of 80,000 peoples; the site will serve Tencent, the tech giant. The city will have its own schools, shops, all public amenities and there will be a connecter road bridge, ferries and a subway system.
Among all plan, this unusual idea of having no manual cars is innovative. The companies, who are involved in this vast project, they stated that the aim is to provide a space, where innovation can flourish. For that, it is important to minimize the car as much as possible. It is quite challenging but when we are working for the well being of people, then we should not focus over the cars.
In the neighbourhood, citizens are allowed to run cars. But as per the plan, a green corridor will be there to eliminate the unnecessary traffic. They are subtracting the roads in such places, where people will comfortable enough to walk for two minutes from the subway to the taxi stand.
The rooftops of the building will be made with solar panels. There will be a firm elaborate system to capture and refine the wastewater. Also, the designers are assuring that in future if the sea level rises, the building will be protected.
The city has been designed to be interconnected with people. There will be a human-focused organic ecosystem. Thus, the employees can erode the difference between their work and home. After COVID-19 pandemic, it will be more relevant. Urban cities have no space of interaction and intermixing. It will be helpful for citizens to develop their life.
It is not the first time when a private company is building a city. In this year, Toyota has announced to build a city at the foothills of Mount Fuji. There will be smart technology and robot-assisted living. The city by Tencent will require seven long years to complete. There will be individual buildings with 30 floors in height.
