The former president Pranab Mukherjee who was 84 died on Monday weeks after his brain surgery he was also tested positive for the coronavirus. Pranab Mukherjee’s funeral will take place on 1st September, Tuesday with full military honors.
Many states in government have announced 7 days of official mourning. According to the sources, former President Pranab Mukherjee’s body has been taken to his official home which is in Delhi,10 Rajaji Marg, for people to pay the last respects and tribute.
Also, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited his residence to pay their last respects. Some of the politicians also paid homage to the former President includes Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, and the Chiefs of three services.
According to the statement of the home ministry which said that as a mark of respect that would be state mourning throughout India from August 31 to September 6. The statement further added that “during the period of state mourning the national flag will fly at half-mast on all buildings throughout India, where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment”.
