Viral messages can bow be sent to only one,limiting it from sending it to five persons.
With Social media becoming the new platform for information, the spread of Misinformations have surged using WhatsApp forwards. The Facebook owned messaging app on tuesday said that the messages can now only be forwarded to a single person, to curtail the spread of Misinformation on the Coronavirus outbreak. Many myths and superstitions related to the virus was the most seen messages in India. Recently, a message which says that the Corona virus is caused by 5G.
Earlier,the initial period of the app’s launch,the users could forward messages to as many as 256 in just few taps, which was then reduced to just 5 users. The app has been used for spread of many helpful messages as well.”We’ve seen a significant increase in the amount of forwarding which users have told us can feel overwhelming and can contribute to the spread of misinformation. We believe it’s important to slow the spread of these messages down to keep WhatsApp a place for personal conversation.” the company had stated in a blog on Tuesday.
The limit is not stopping or preventing the users to send message but can just put a resistance on the no. of forwards by slowing down.
