On Monday, Sonia Gandhi composed a letter to PM Narendra Modi advising him to extend the benefits of the food security scheme. She also urged him to provide the Free food grain scheme to those who are in need but do not hold a ration card.
She further added that it is very unfortunate that despite having a large buffer stock of food grains, people are facing chronic food insecurity. Therefore, the government should focus on contributing at least 10 kg of grains free to every person for a period of 6-month.
She wholeheartedly welcomed the decision of 5kg grain per person under the National Food Security Act from the month of April to June 2020. But she also suggested him to increase this from 5kg to 10 kg. Also, she mentioned that in the NFSA list several deserving people have been excluded, so they are facing acute distress. Hence, the government should also focus on these individuals.
