Have you ever heard of the 8X8 rule? You must be wondering if this is another theorem in Maths. No, it is the rule which applies in our everyday life. It simply means that we should drink 8 glasses of water every day. This helps us in remaining hydrated throughout the day. This is just a rough figure as the amount of water consumption required by every person is different. Drinking water helps in improving our health in many ways.
Drinking hot water raises the temperature of our body which in turn leads to sweating. Sweating opens the pores in our skin and releases the toxins out of our body.
Drinking hot water along with tea and coffee can reduce stress and anxiety. Hot water can also lead to a good mood. It also aids in the release of hormones and neurotransmitters which enhance our thinking.
3. Reducing body pains:
Hot water bags are used by people during body pains as it provides relief. Even during an injury, drinking hot water improves the circulation of blood to these muscles which can speed up the healing process. The joints in our body contain 80 percent water and water acts as a lubricant by increasing their shock absorbing ability.
4. Weight loss:
Drinking water can help in weight loss. It increases the rate of metabolism which in turn increases the number of calories which we burn. Also, drinking water before eating keeps us full so that we consume few calories while eating. Studies show that drinking water increases weight loss by 2 kg in older adults and by 44% in middle-aged adults.
5. As a cure for diseases:
Water prevents kidney damage and the formation of kidney stones. If a person already has kidney stones, higher intake of water can help to pass the stones out of the body as urine. Water dilutes the concentration of minerals in the stones so that they do not form clumps.
Constipation is a common problem among people which occurs due to poor bowel movements. Water can help in decreasing constipation.
Water can also help in fighting colds and sinuses. During dehydration, the airways in our body contract to minimize water loss which can make asthma and colds worse. Steam inhalation can provide relief during sinuses.
Dehydration can cause migraines or headaches. Drinking water regularly can cure frequent headaches.
Along with these some of the other benefits of drinking water include improved blood circulation which help the muscles relax. Drinking water can also help us exercise better by regulating our body temperature. It helps preventing skin disorders and wrinkling. Water also helps to get over a hangover caused due to excessive consumption of alcohol.
The human body consists of 60 percent water and blood consists of 90 percent water. When the water content in our body becomes less than 20 percent, it can lead to death. Even mild dehydration can have adverse effects on the health of a person. As it has been said that without eating a man can survive for a month but without water he can hardly survive for a week. Thus, water is an essential source of life and it is the second most important element after oxygen.
