The government on 30th July 2020 has decided to impose restrictions on the import of colored television sets.
In order to promote domestic manufacturing and cut inbound shipments of non-essential items like colored televisions from China.
When any restrictions it put on any commodity then, in order to import it, the seller needs to get a license from the commerce ministry’s DGFT to do so. The TV size that is included in the restrictions is from 36cm to over 105cm. LCD TVs below the size of 63cm are also covered in this list.
Manish Sharma, President and CEO Panasonic India said now the consumers will get high-quality televisions from now.
He also said “It will definitely have a positive impact on domestic assembling which happens here. Leading brands already have manufacturing and assembling units in the country. So, it is not going to impact us,”.
The major importers of TVs are China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, Germany, Thailand, and Indonesia.
