Reliance Jio aggressively is increasing its footprint across the country, by either partnering with global tech giants such as Google and Facebook or by acquiring a large share of the telecom spectrum in India. Word is that after disrupting the feature-phone market in India, Reliance Jio is planning to disrupt the smartphone space.
According to a report, Reliance Jio plans to sign an exclusive partnership with Itel to launch a low-cost smartphone in India. By next month, the two companies are expected to sign a deal.
The report also mentions that Reliance Jio and Itel, jointly will launch an extremely affordable smartphone, with its target audience being user who plan to shift from a feature phone to a smartphone, especially in rural parts of the country. Tailored to meet the demands of the device users, the phone is expected to come with low-cost data plans by Reliance Jio. There is also a possibility that the phone will be sold via Reliance’s online and offline stores.
At the end, there is no word on the specifications of the upcoming smartphone yet. As well as, there is no word on the exact launch date of the smartphone.
Noting that Reliance Jio already offers two feature phones to users, that is JioPhone and the JioPhone 2. Both devices feature support Jio apps along with a special version of WhatsApp running on KaiOS.
