Amid the lockdown, to bring balance on the social distancing, police has been roaming around the street. Sunday, Patiala police has been asking Nihang for the curfew passes at a vegetable market in Sanaur, Patiala district.
There were barricades were put up outside the market and entry restricted to those with curfew passes to break the chain of infection of COVID-19. An SUV suddenly comes there and rushed towards the barricades. The SUV as contained The Nihangs, members of Sikh sect who are allowed to carry swords and other traditional arms. They used to wear blue robes.
The police asked them to show the curfew passes, which they don’t have. Suddenly some of them came down from the car and started attacking the police officer with a sword. They were trying chopping them down.
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harjeet Singh was brutally injured with this attack and he was sent to the nearby hospital asap. Now he is in PGIMER in Chandigarh, his surgery has been going on.
After chasing the Nihangs, five attackers among eleven has been arrested from the Nihang Dera complex, 25 km from the scene of the crime.
