Netflix to launch a new feature called ‘Play Something’, available for all the users. A button will be added across the streaming service’s UI to automatically suggest new series and movies that the users have never watched before. The button will be added in several places on Netflix’s app, including underneath your profile when you log in, the left-side navigation bar, and in the tenth row of Netflix’s homepage.
Under different names, Netflix has been testing the features for some time now. The testing of the feature began last year as ‘Shuffle Play’ to help users find content, however, Netflix is now launching the feature globally as “Play Something”.
To begin with, the Play Something button is going to be visible on TV-based versions of the Netflix app. The company will soon start testing the feature on Android devices as well. According to Cameron Johnson, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix, the Play Something feature can play about 75 series. He also mentioned about the testing of the feature which showed most people sticking to the first show or skipping to a few more.
Netflix will start playing a movies or series similar to the ones you have been watching, when the Play Something button is clicked. It will show new movies and series, including the ones are are unfinished, but won’t show the ones you have already finished. Netflix will indicate when the feature is on with a border on the screen, and the button on the right side. To go to the next series or movies, you can press the ‘Play Something Else’ button. By pressing the exit button which is on the top left corner of the screen, you can go back to browsing on the service.
