As covid-19 pandemic has hit the travel industry hard, Google becomes the first to add new tools to travel feature which highlight any virus related information in order to help users plan their travel better. These will include local covid-19 case count, trip search rules and whether the hotel offers free cancellations, among many others.
Not only does this provide real time data on number of covid-19 cases but also has an additional feature of telling if your vacation reservation is offering free refunds and an option to filter your searches exclusively by that criteria. It also has travel trends that show what percentage of hotels have availability and flights in operation to that area along with information about existing alerts about whether there is currently a travel advisory for your destination in Google search.Currently no other major travel provider is displaying this level of detail.
However some clumping out is still required. Google links to travel advisories are not state-specific but nationwide. Also while knowing the percentage of operational hotel helps, it doesn’t distinguish which of these available options is better equipped to provide a safe stay. Travellers are suggested to still look up local testing and quarantine requirements
