Denmark, Norway, Austria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Luxembourg halt the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine as a precautionary measure.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Thursday said that Nigeria had not observed any adverse effects to the AstraZeneca vaccine. The Agency reported that European countries received a different batch from what Nigeria received.
A large number of European countries have temporarily halted the use of the vaccine as it followed reports of people having blood clots which led to their death after getting vaccinated.
In Austria, a woman died ten days after receiving the vaccination due to “severe blood coagulation problems.” After this incident, Austria suspended the batch (ABV5300) which was sent to Austria and 17 other European countries.
The agency stated, “We understand that investigations are being conducted to determine if the batch is in any way linked to an observed side effect.”
