The cases of COVID-19 are increasing day by day. In the country the cases are reporting on a daily basis is considerable. In the previous 25 days, India has reported more than 12 Lakh patients of COVID-19. the states Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal Odisha, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, have the worst condition.
With the increase in cases that are recorded on a daily basis in Orissa, the State Government is planning to bring the Epidemics Act for increasing the punishment for non-compliance of the guidelines. The number of cases in the state has crossed 52,000 and the death toll stands at 314. The government has decided the amendment of the Epidemic Disease Act Section 3 in the state which would increase the imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years or fine up to 1 lakh. This punishment will be for those who are violating the COVID-19 guidelines.
However, the act would be done through the Ordinance route, as the state assembly is not in the session said the Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy. The amendment will include protection for healthcare personnel, combating the disease, and expanding the powers to the central government to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
