Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Sports Ceremony was held virtually with most winners logging in from their respective places to hear the names being announced on Saturday, 29 August. There were several ministers who attended the National Sports award ceremony among them was the president Ram Nath Kovind, Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju, and other dignitaries.
In the ceremony, there were several events organized which included to honor the country’s bright athletes and coaches and various organizations working to promote sports in the country. The awards were called out in the ceremony which included Khel Ratna award recipients, then Dronacharya award followed by Arjuna award and Dhyanchand award.
Some of the members who missed the ceremony were wrestler Vinesh Phogat and star Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. While Vinesh Phogat was not able to attend the ceremony due to he was tested positive for COVID-19 also Rohit missed the ceremony because he is preparing for the IPL 2020 in the UAE.
The National Sports Awards 2020 was held via video conferencing due to coronavirus pandemic where president Ram Nath Kovind gave away the awards.
