The Supreme Court is going to hear the plea, where it has been stated that the Centre wants to amend the constitution and replace the word India with ‘Bharat’ or ‘Hindustan’. As the word signify the sense of pride of nationality. The plea is about to modify the amendment in Article 1 of the constitution, which deals with the name and territory union.
The petition was listed for hearing on Friday. But the apex got deleted from the list, as the Chief Justice of India S A Bobde was not available for the hearing. A notice has been published in the top court website, that the matter has been listed for hearing on June 2, before it proceeds to CJI. The plea filed by the Delhi-based man, who claimed the amendment to ensure the citizens of this country, to get over the colonial past.
The plea stated that the name Bharat is more relevant than India. Also, it will connect everyone. The removal of the English name appeared to be symbolic. It senses as the pride of own nationality, especially for the future generations. Instead of the word India, replaced with Bharat will justify the struggle of the freedom fighters, the ancestors.
