Mrunal Thakur is in a good mood because she has three books coming out this year. “I am relieved that, in 2020, viewers will be able to see the amount of effort we have put into our films. Toofan is my first album, and it’s one of my favourites. I worked with a fantastic team, which included Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra sir, but the journey, experience, and development, not only as an actor but also as a person, was enormous. Because of it, I feel like I’m a different person today,” says the Super 30 (2019) star.
OTT, she says, is a boon for those who can’t go to the movies but can watch content at home. And during Covid-19, there are ways to keep our audiences entertained. OTT has a massive global presence, with every project release reaching over 200 countries. As an actor, I never felt pressured by box office receipts. My film is a full package that will not only thrill but also encourage people to never give up and fulfil their dreams. We all need the extra push to keep us on track and on the right direction. That’s what my character does, though Farhan inspired me in real life (laughs). Working with him was enchanting and refreshing,” she says.
The actor’s next project is Jersey, which stars Shahid Kapoor and Aankh Micholi, and he will soon begin filming for Pippa, which also stars Ishaan Khatter.
Jersey had started filming in early 2020 but had to put it on hold due to the lockdown. The unit started shooting again later in October, shortly after being unlocked. “I was terrified, but the excitement of being on a movie set was great,” she says of the experience of filming during the pandemic.
We couldn’t stand or sit together, so we kept our distances, wore PPE suits, and sanitised regularly – it was a long process, and we didn’t know what interventions we needed or what worked back then. It was all brand new at the time, but we now know better! We were all satisfied at the end of the schedule in Dehradun after working so hard, and we were thankful for the daily workers who were able to earn their salaries on a film shoot because they were dying of hunger rather than Covid. I was relieved to return to work.”
