LG Polymer chemical plant in Visakhapatnam has been started leaking gas around 2:30 am on Thursday. It has been reported that the residents are falling sick with the symptoms of headache, vomiting, breathing problems. Peoples are dying for the deadly gas.
Nearby villages have been started evacuated, hundreds of people are now rushing towards the hospital. The death toll is rising. People are getting unconscious on the road. A horrible picture of disaster is coming up in every minute.
The gas leak has started from a tank with 2,000 metric tons of chemical, which is also intact with another 3,000 MT chemical tank. It has been suspected that a large number of workers are still stuck in that plant in the time of this impact.
Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner RK Meena stated, that the gas has been neutralised. NDRF team already started to act on by reaching on the spot. The gas can spread maximum 1-1.5 km radius, but the smell can go up 2-2.5 km at least. More than 800 people have been admitted to the hospital now.
10 people have been passed away due to the fatality of gas. There are 2 senior citizens, and one child, among the dead. 5000 people have got sick for the styrene gas attack. The rescue operation is still going on by the Andhra Government. Andhra Chief Minister is on his way to the hospital to monitor everything closely.
LG Chem, the owner of LG Polymer has responded that the styrene can cause nausea and dizziness when inhaled. The patients must be treated immediately. they are sending all the requirements to keep the residents secure and safe. An Official from Seoul stated that It will be investigated that how this incident took place when this particular factory has been suspended all the production due to lockdown measures.
