The JDU executive meeting was held in Patna today after the Janata Dal United (JDU )’s poor performance in the Bihar assembly elections and 6 party MLAs in Arunachal Pradesh recently joined the BJP. In the meeting, Nitish Kumar handed over the command of the party to Rajya Sabha MP RCP Singh and announced to make him the national president. Let me tell you that since Sharad Yadav stepped down as JDU National President in April 2016, Nitish Kumar remained the President of the party as well as the Chief Minister.

Please tell that RCP Singh is currently the Rajya Sabha MP of JDU. 62-year-old RCP Singh is originally from Nalanda, where Nitish Kumar is also. RCP Singh is from Kurmi caste and Nitish Kumar also comes from Kurmi community. Singh is considered very close to Nitish Kumar. He has the number 2 position in the party after Nitish. RCP Singh was the national general secretary of JDU before becoming national president. Also, before joining politics, he was a former IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre.
How RCP Singh became close to Nitish Kumar
It is said that in 1996 when Nitish Kumar was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government at the Center, he got his eye on RCP Singh. During this time, ICP officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre RCP Singh was working as personal secretary to Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma. After this, when Nitish Kumar became railway minister, he made RCP Singh his special secretary.
After this, when Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister after the Bihar assembly elections in 2005, he called RCP Singh from Delhi to Bihar. Between 2005 and 2010, RCP Singh served as Principal Secretary to Nitish Kumar. During this time RCP Singh’s hold in the party started to get stronger.
