A jeweler suffered 80% burns after he was set on fire by a shopkeeper. He died a day later……..
Robin, a shopkeeper in Uttar Pradesh”s Firozabad allegedly suspected a jeweler, Rakesh Verma of having an illicit relationship with his wife, leading to her suicide and set him on fire, henceforth.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Rakesh Verma, was sitting in his jewellery shop in the Dakshin police station area when he had a heated argument with Robin, who happens to run a shop in his neighbourhood. As the fight continued and in the events that followed, Robin threw an inflammable liquid from a bottle on him, and set him on fire; sources confirm.
He was initially taken to the district hospital from where he was referred to the Agra hospital in a serious condition, the SSP said. He suffered 80 per cent burns.
“According to preliminary information, it has come to light that Robin’s wife Puja had committed suicide on August 12. He suspected that Rakesh had an illicit relationship with her, which led to her suicide.” SSP said.
On Wednesday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sachindra Patel added, “Death of Rakesh Verma (40) has been confirmed by SN Medical College, Agra. The body has been sent for post-mortem. The statement of Verma was recorded before his death.”
The police stated that four police teams have been formed to arrest the accused shopkeeper, identified as Robin. CCTV footage is also being checked, to arrest the accused who fled after the incident. The help of the Special Operations Group is also being taken.He will be arrested soon, the SSP said.
Meanwhile reacting to it, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and state Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu alleged poor law and order in the state.
