Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) batsman Chris Gayle smashed 99 runs during the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday. He missed a century by just one run. After failing to score the 23rd century of T20 career, he threw his bat away in despair. It is considered a violation of the code of conduct. The IPL has fined him 10 per cent of the match fees.
Left-handed batsman Gayle completed his 1000th six in T20 with a seventh six during a stormy inning at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi but missed out on a century. After this, he threw his bat away.
He needed just one run to complete his century. But in the last over of KXIP, Joffra Archer gave Gayle a clean bold on his yorker. Gayle played 63 balls in his innings. During this, he hit 8 sixes and 6 fours. In fact, 41-year-old Gayle, who called himself ‘Universe Boss’, tried to hit his bat on the ground in desperation, but the bat slipped from his hand and fell far enough. However, after that, he joined hands with Jofra Archer.
The IPL said in its statement, “Kings XI Punjab batsman Chris Gayle has been fined 10 percent of the match fees for violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) code of conduct in the match against Rajasthan Royals.” Gayle has admitted his mistake.
