“What is your hobby?”-This is a question that every person comes across at least once in his or her lifetime. This is a common question which we come across while writing essays in our exams and articles for school magazines or while attending a job interview. The answer to this question is different for different people. A hobby can be reading, dancing, coin collection, singing etc. But what exactly do we mean by the word ‘hobby’? A hobby is something that a person likes to do during his/her spare time. It is something which makes a person forget about his worries and makes him happy and satisfied. Hobby is a person’s favorite pastime.
In today’s fast-paced world, people are so busy that they hardly have any time to relax. It might be difficult for them to take a break from their schedule to relax and enjoy. By pursuing a hobby, they can relax for some time even during a stressful situation and take their mind off negative emotions. Apart from these, pursuing a hobby also helps us in improving our health in many ways:

Hobbies such as photography, gardening etc., can help a person gain a lot of knowledge, experience and skills. Every hobby teaches us something new and different from what we learn at school or work.

Hobbies such as playing chess, sudoku etc., keep us engaged and active which is a great way to exercise our brain. This helps us to improve our mental health.
3.Hobbies help in overcoming depression:
People undergo many treatments and therapies to overcome mental illness such as depression. Engaging in a hobby such as listening to music, writing a diary, etc., can help overcome feelings of low self-esteem and self-doubt and help in overcoming depression.
4.Hobbies help in physical fitness:
Some people take up exercising as a hobby which is both fun and rewarding. This helps them remain fit and healthy.
5.Hobbies promote better sleep:
Engaging in a hobby keeps us active throughout the day which in turn helps us sleep easily during the night.
People with similar interests in music, dance, etc., can come together and connect with each other. This is an effective way to meet new people and expand our social circle. There are some hobbies through which a person can make money. They can take up their hobby as a full-time job and achieve success in their respective fields. Some people help the society by making donations for old age homes, orphanages, animal shelters etc., in order to make it a better place to live in.
Hobby makes a person feel alive and good. It offers a great opportunity to escape reality and live life to the fullest. It allows us to explore our hidden talents. The world is full of new and exciting activities and it is our responsibility to explore them because life is not just about work, it is the small joys which come along with it.
