The former IPS officer Annamalai was also popularly referred to as “Singham” in Karnataka head quit Police Force in May 2019. After his resignation, he was expected to join BJP but over the last few months, he had decided and gave a deep thought about his political career.
According to the report, Annamalai told: “I was considering my options over the last few months but finally I have decided to join BJP and start my political career”. He further added that “I closely aligned with the larger version of the BJP I will have an opportunity to be in the party and help grow the party in Tamil Nadu”. He also added that “I see I am a natural fit there in the BJP”.
According to the sources he was also in talks with other parties including Rajinikanth but eventually decided to join BJP. He did not consider joining Dravidian parties. Regarding this, he told that he also felt Dravidian parties are not true to the original mission of bringing about change. the ideals of Annadurai, Periyar, and MGR were different from the ideals of today’s leaders.
His decision to join BJP did not come straight after his resignation. He had given the thought and after giving interviews to much Tamil media as he had said that his political plunge will come later and not any time soon.
