A helicopter crashed into a residential building in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, resulting into the death of two people. The accident happened in the Ikeja district, a congested part of the state popular for its businesses and residential apartments.
Head of the state emergency agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, told local media that there were three people in the helicopter when it crashed and the third person was severely injured and has been taken to hospital.
The incident, which took place at Salvation road, Opebi, occurred at some minutes after 12 noon on Friday. Quorun Aviation Limited, an air transportation and logistics company, is said to be the owner of the ill-fated aircraft.
Tunji Oketunbi, spokesman of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), said personnel of the bureau have been drafted to the scene of the incident. “Officials of the Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and fire fighters are also at the scene”, he ensured.
Okunbor Nosa, public relations officer of LASEMA, said one person who sustained injury has been taken to General Hospital, Ikeja, for treatment.
A video posted on social media shows onlookers gathering around and what appears to be part of the wreckage. Total number of casualties however are not confirmed.
