Taking advantage of the crisis situation and panic attacks in people due to the Covid-19, many fake news and rumors are being sent across by means of various social media platforms. One of the rumors that became viral on social media was that “consuming alcohol eliminates the coronavirus” which is totally false as claimed by the World Health Organisation (WHO). As it was advised to use alcohol based hand sanitizers frequently which became a prominent practice amongst people worldwide, it was believed by some people that alcohol based drinks such as wine, beer etc are good weapons to kill the virus.
Moreover, according to the WHO, the best way to keep oneself safe from the attack of the virus is to stay indoors and wash hands frequently with soap and water and maintain proper hygiene at home. In addition to this, applying sanitizer sprays all over the body can not kill the virus if it has already entered one’s body, rather it is bad for one’s sensitive organs such as the eyes is also claimed by the WHO. Taking a hot water bath, as done by many, is still not proved to be an antidote to kill the virus. It is advised not to touch one’s eyes, nose or mouth without proper hand washing as the virus may enter through them if present in the hands. Staying at home is the best possible precaution one can take in order to stay safe and protected. One must not fall into the trap of these fake rumors without a proper fact check.
