The explosive red letter was written by 26th top Congress leaders including MPs in former Union Ministers demanding a full-time visible leadership and complaining about a shift in the party which spoke about uncertainty over the leadership. In the letter it was written that there has been a “steady decline of the party witnessed in the 2014 and 2019 election but there has been no honest introspection analyze the reasons, it also says that the Congress is no more nurturing leadership and calls for free” fair and democratic” elections”.
The signatories from the letter include Kapil Sibal, Shashi Tharoor, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prithviraj Chavan, Rajya Sabha, Vivek Tankha, and Anand Sharma. The two leaders who have always been a Gandhi loyalist are Ghulam Nabi Azad and Rajya Sabha. In the letter, it was stated that in the last two national elections India added 18.7 crore first-time voters but the youth voted overwhelmingly for Modi and BJP.
While the BJP vote share sharply increased from 7.84 crores in 2009 to 17.6 crores in 2014 and 22.9 crosses in 2019 the Congress lost its shares in 1.23 crores of the votes polled in 2009. It also added that “even after 14 months of 2019 electoral why did the Congress party has not to undertake any honest introspection to analyze the reasons for its continued decline”.
