The Defense Research and Development Organisation, DRDO had installed disinfection chambers at the All India Institute of Medical sciences, AIIMS for tackling the covid 19 pandemic situation in the country.
The full body disinfection chamber installed is called as “Personal Sanitization Enclosure & face protection mask”. It was developed in the vehicle Research and Development establishment in a DRDO laboratory at Ahmednagar. The DRDO stated that this enclosure is designed for personal decontamination, and this portable sysytem has sanitisation and soap dispensers equipped.
When a person is entered inside the chamber a disinfectant spray of hyposodium chloride is created by an electrically operated pump. The mist is sprayed for 25 seconds and it turns off automatically. The enclosure is a glassed chamber for monitoring procedure and around 650 personnel can pass through the chamber until the disinfectant is refilled. It is said that the system has upto 700litres of capacity for the disinfectant in the bottom tank.
DRDO states that this is for trial basis and it can be used for disinfecting the people who enters and exits the hospital. Once the setup is successful it will also install as per the demands of other organisations.
