According to the police, two brothers who own jewelry shop in Central Delhi’s Chandni Chowk were found dead at the store around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 26 August. A suicide note has been recovered from the place where the incident took place.
Monika Bhardwaj who is the Deputy Commissioner of Police(North) said that the bodies were found on the 3rd floor of the jewelry shop, while their father was on the first floor when the incident took place. The two brothers who committed suicide identified as Arpit- who was 42 years old and Ankit- who was 47 years old. In the suicide note, it was found that the brothers reportedly cited the financial crisis and apologized to their family.
According to the locals the two were being harassed, thrashed by money lenders from whom they have taken loans. They were not able to repay the loan due to the financial crisis brought on by the coronavirus lockdown. The investigation is going on, the police said they are verifying the allegations and said the two brothers have not named anyone in their suicide note.
Monika Bhardwaj who is deputy commissioner of the police said that “we are recording the statement of family members and the matter is being investigated.” She further added that Ankit, the elder brother was married and has two children while his younger brother Arpit is unmarried.
