The state owned tele-company is bringing 4G services at last. 50,000 new sites all across the country will be installing the towers with a total budget of 11,000 crores. The company head quartered in Delhi rolled out tenders on Sunday.
Around 7,000 sites in Delhi and Mumbai(MTNL ZONES) alone will be requiring 8697 crores.
The tenders will be offered to the contractor with the lowest bid, as reported by the Financial Express. The contracter will be referred as L1 and will be given 3 out of 5 zones in the country. L2, with the second lowest evaluated bid will be given the other two zones.
The reducing monthly cost of the BSNL employees has been the major factor for this decision. 29,937crores out of 70000 crores allocated by the govt for the BSNL restoration pack was meant for voluntary retirement scheme and around 78,300 BSNL employees and 14000 MTNL employees opted fro the VRS option.
BSNL also thinks the upgradation of the old 2G and3G towers which would be costing 4,000 crores extra. Samsung, Nokia, ZTE and Erricson to bid for the tender.
