“A book is a dream that you hold in your hand.”- Neil Gaiman
A friend is a person who has no demands and complaints and whenever you are with him or her you have a lot of fun. In the same way, books are man’s best friends. They provide us with a lot of knowledge, entertainment, guidance etc., and help us take the right decisions in life just like friends do. Just like every friend has a different quality, books have different genres and each genre teaches us something important in life. Mainly books are classified into two categories:
1) Fictional Books:
Fictional books are the ones in which the writers create a story based on his or her imagination. They can also draw inspiration from real-life situations. Fictional books are also called ’novels’. The stories are so interesting and creative that people easily connect to these books.
The different genres which come under fictional books include classics which are generally taught to students in schools. There are adventure books like ‘Around the world in 80 days’, ‘Treasure Island’, etc., which take the reader on a wonderful journey looking for quests and overcoming challenges along the way. Another genre of fictional books is fantasy and fairy-tale which includes magic, witchcraft, dragons, princesses and magical creatures. These books take us into a magical world which we create using our imagination. We also have crime and thriller books whose plot leaves us sitting on the edge of our seats.
2) Non-fictional books:
These books are generally encyclopedias, biographies or autobiographies of a person. They are based on facts, truths or historical events. They provide us knowledge about our world, our history and all the important things which can help in our overall development.
We have books based on fashion and lifestyle which teach us about the current trends in the fashion industry. There are travel books which help us explore the world while sitting in one place. We also have motivational books which inspire people in many aspects of life such as personality development. There are books based on trending technologies which keep us updated with the recent advancements in the world.
A book is to your mind what exercise is to your body. Reading a book can have a major impact in a person’s life by helping him evolve. Reading books improves our knowledge and makes us wiser. They are a great company when we are lonely or bored. Books help in enhancing our imagination as we create our own scenarios and characters based on what we read. This in turn improves our creative thinking. They also help us in improving our vocabulary and writing skills. We often hear people saying that they cannot read more than a few pages as it is tiring and prefer to watch a movie instead. But there is always more content in the book than in a movie based on it. By choosing the right book based on our area of interest, we can cultivate the habit of reading. The happiness we get while reading a book can be felt only when we read it.
