Spotify finally has reached the milestone of 1 billion downloads on Android phones (Google Play Store). Now that Google has shuttered its Google Play Music, Spotify has also become one the most downloaded audio streaming app on the platform. Just two-years after entering the Android world, the audio streaming app had already reached the 500 million mark.
The company seems to expanding its ecosystem in every segment possible, other than having a free and subscription version, it is also working on its own podcasting platform continuously, providing services directly to compete with Amazon by launching audiobooks. It most recently launched its own hardware for car infotainment system.
According to a report, Spotify had a record growth in countries such as the United States and India. It was also mentioned that from a year earlier, premium subscribers were up 21% to 158 million. Last month, the company launched paid podcasts on its streaming platform. The service is open for all users who create podcasts via the Anchor app. For the next two years, the service is going to be free, following which, Spotify will start taking a small cut in 2023.
The announcement came soon after Apple’s ‘Spring Launch’ announcement last week, where they announced changes to its podcast app introducing paid podcasts.
The redesigned podcasts app by Apple arrived with iOS 14.5, which added several other system improvements and security fixes.
Spotify had also introduced new features on its platform. The company last month announced that they have reworked its library tab for mobile with important new features like pinned content, dynamic filters and a grid view.
