Nine people are trapped inside a hydroelectric plant of Telangana state power generation corporation (TSGenco), the under-tunnel Srisailam Left Bank Power Station (SLBP) when the fire broke out in the electric panel late on Thursday night, officials confirmed.
Ten people have been rescued from the Srisailam hydroelectric plant, which is near Telangana’s border with Andhra Pradesh. The fire reportedly started at 10:30 PM. According to initial reports, a short circuit at the underground hydroelectric power station situated at Srisailam’s dam initiated the fire.
Telangana power minister G Jagadeeshwar Reddy, told reporters that the fire erupted, possibly due to short circuit in the electric panels of the powerhouse and it spread to other parts of the powerhouse, and he also monitoring the situation very closely.
Deputy executive engineer Srinivas, assistant engineer Sundar and other junior engineers Fatima Begum, Sushma, Venkat Rao, Kiran and Rambabu, and two other employees of a private engineering firm from Hyderabad, among those trapped inside.
