Sara Ali Khan
Sara Ali Khan is extremely open about her weight gain, often posting pictures of her heavier days. In an interview with The Times Of India, she spoke about her decision to lose weight saying, “With me, being fat was also a consequence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Our job is demanding when it comes to hours, mood, dedication, commitment, and focus. You cannot afford to have [your] hormones all over the place. Weight loss for me was as much about health and confidence as it was about vanity.”
Sonakshi Sinha lost 30kgs on Salman Khan’s request before joining Bollywood, but decided to further lose some more weight, adding pilates and functional training to tone her body up.
In an Instagram post, Parineeti opened up about her weight loss saying, “All my life, I have struggled with how I look, how I feel, and how people looked at me. I was constantly made fun of, but the person I was, I generously laughed with them. Today, many people ask me what triggered the weight loss, did I give in to the ‘Bollywood pressure’? To that I say – thank god I became an actor and had that pressure! I am able to achieve what I couldn’t achieve otherwise. I feel more confident, I feel at peace, and I feel proud!”
Sonam Kapoor struggled with PCOD, weighing 86 kgs before she joined the industry. With a combination of Pilates and yoga, and a balanced diet, Sonam successfully managed to tone her body. She recently converted to veganism to deal with her lactose intolerance.
Bhumi Pednekar’s Bollywood debut had her playing an overweight woman, which led her to pack on the pounds, gaining 30 kgs for her role in Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The movie won her critical acclaim, but she also has to focus on losing all that weight. She cut out all sorts of refined and processed food from her diet and switched to whole wheat flours and ate plenty of salads. She also did a lot of swimming, Bollywood dance and running to drop the weight.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
During her pregnancy, her weight touched 90 kgs. Post delivery, she focused on losing the weight to become fitter and prep for her role in Veere Di Wedding, but taking her own time to focus on the weight loss. She enlisted nutritionist Rujuta Divevkar and worked with pilates instructor Namrata Purohit to shed all that weight the right way.
