British Airways is one of the leading global airways organisations about to dismiss their 36,000 staff because of COVID-19 pandemic. Gatwick and London city airport staffs will be suspended until the pandemic is going to stop. They are negotiating with United Union more than a week.
Now both of them have reached to breach a deal with further details. These means that more than 80% of cabin crew, ground staff, engineer and employees of head office will be suspended but no one is expecting to be prepared redundant.
Besides, they are going to receive some of their salaries as per the government arranged the scheme for coronavirus job retention. It covers up to 80% of salary, maximum of 2,500 Euro per month. It was expecting that employees at British Airways will be shocked. When the planes are setting on the position – and nearly all of BA’s fleet s are scattered to local airports around the country.
Moreover, usually staffs manage to makes up about 40% of an airline’s costs, and BA must recover 80% of wages from the government employment support scheme set up to facilitate companies affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
John Strickland, independent aviation analyst, described the situation with the phrase “tough negotiations” between BA and the Unite union agreement. According to him, this is a very serious issue. Unite union has been approaching to paid more to the staffs.
