On Tuesday, nearly 2,000 migrant workers assembled in Mumbai in front of Bandra west station after the news of further lockdown till May 3. They were angry since they thought Tuesday was the last date of 21-day lockdown. But were devastated once they heard about the extended date.
Some of the workers disclosed that they received a call that claimed about a meeting to be held for reaching home in the next few days. They said that the meeting was regarding the arrangement of transport for taking the workers and their families back to their homes in U.P., West Bengal and Bihar.
Anil Deshmukh the Home Minister of Maharashtra said that a strong inquiry has been ordered to find out the culprit. Once he is found, serious actions will be taken against him for organising the mass gathering and spreading rumour.
The clerics from the mosque around the station and Police requested the crowd to move away from the place. Since it would result in a high risk of spread of infection. Later, they all dispersed after the forceful effect made by Police. Migrant labourers were frustrated and angry after hearing about the lockdown extension. As they thought they could reach back to their homes after the uplift of lockdown.
