The Bacillus Calmette-Guerin vaccine, the vaccine to fight off tuberculosis is now being tested as the cure of the Coronavirus by the various clinical labs. Though both of these diseases have different symptoms and caused by different microbes.
As per the experts, this BCG vaccine would help people to build immunity against the things other than TB, by causing “off-target effects. It has been observed that, while clinical testing over the people, they’ve responded positively. Dr Faustman, a medical expert has researched the effect of BCG vaccine on the people with Type 1 diabetes for many years. Now she is researching that if the off-target effects could benefit for the immune system for people with autoimmune diseases.
Currently, there is no vaccine or any curable drug for COVID-19 has not been approved by US Food and Administration. It has been expecting that the BCG vaccine could be a cure for COVID-19 so far. But some of the doctors are saying it couldn’t be relevant as this vaccine could be work in a different way. It is such an out-of-the-box concept.
Though many countries have started giving this vaccine to the patients; such as Australia, Netherland. Dr Faustman and her colleagues have started preparation for trials in Boston, which is under multistep review. After approving the team will start trials for 4000 medical staffs.
